Lesson 1

💭 Think About...

Who here knows about Super Mario and what kinds of things Mario has to do in his games?
What are the three types of challenges we learned about today - jumping, crawling, and what else?
When you were building your obstacle course with your partner, what was the hardest part to figure out?
What made an obstacle course fun and exciting to play through?
If you could add one magical Mario power-up to your obstacle course, what would it do?

🔨 Your Project

**Your Mission: Design Your First Super Mario Level!**

Today you're going to become a Super Mario game designer! You'll plan, build, and test your very own obstacle course that Mario could play through.

**Step 1: Plan Your Level**

- Draw your obstacle course idea on paper

- Include at least 3 different challenges:

* Something to JUMP over (like blocks or cones)

* Something to CRAWL under (like hula hoops or boxes)

* Something to BALANCE through (like a straight line or narrow path)

- Make it look fun but not too scary!

**Step 2: Team Up and Build**

- Work with a partner to combine your best ideas

- Use the materials to build your real obstacle course

- Make sure everything is safe - test it yourself first!

- Remember: Mario needs to be able to actually get through your level

**Step 3: Test Your Level**

- Take turns being "Mario" and going through other teams' courses

- Watch others play through your level

- Cheer for your classmates as they complete the challenges!

**The Test: Does Your Level Work?**

✓ Can someone safely jump, crawl, and balance through your course?

✓ Is it fun and exciting to play?

✓ Did you work well with your teammate?

✓ Can you explain your level to other players?
