Marauder's Map Scavenger Hunt

💭 Think About...

1. Have you ever used a map before? What was it for? How did it help you?
2. Imagine you're in a new place you've never been before, like a big museum. How could a map of that place be useful?
3. The Marauder's Map in Harry Potter showed where people were in the castle. How do you think this ability would be helpful? What problems could it cause?
4. If you could design a magical map of any place in the world, what would you choose? What special features would your map have?
5. How do you think making a map of our classroom/school could help us appreciate the space differently? What details do you think we'll notice while making our maps?

🔨 Your Project

  1. Get a piece of white cardstock and write your name on the back. This will be your Marauder's Map!
  2. Sketch the basic shape of our classroom/school layout in pencil. Focus on the walls, doors, and windows first. It's okay if it's not perfect!
  3. Trace over your pencil lines with a black marker to make them stand out. Erase any extra pencil marks.
  4. Add other important features like desks, tables, bookshelves, or the whiteboard. Use the symbols from the Marauder's Map Symbols Key or create your own.
  5. Color your map with colored pencils or crayons to make different areas stand out. For example, you could make the reading corner blue and the science area green.
  6. Label the key areas on your map, like the front door, your desk, or the teacher's desk. Make sure your labels are clear and easy to read.
  7. Double check that your map has all the main elements of our space. Compare it to a friend's map to see if you missed anything.
  8. Once you're happy with your map, bring it to the teacher to get a copy of the Marauder's Map Scavenger Hunt Clues.
  9. Read the first clue carefully and use your map to figure out where it's leading you. Go to that spot and look for the next clue!
  10. Keep following the clues and marking off each location on your map until you reach the final spot. If you get stuck, re-read the clues or ask a friend for help.
  11. When you finish the hunt, bring your completed map back to the teacher to celebrate your success as an honorary Marauder!
