Cardboard Tube Horns

💭 Think About...

Does the horn make your voice louder?
Can you direct sound to different places?
What's the difference between whisper and shout?
How do horns help in marching bands?
Can you make different sounds through it?

🔨 Your Project

Today you'll make voice-amplifying horns using cardboard tubes and funnels:

Voice Amplification Horns: You'll connect two paper towel tubes end-to-end and attach a plastic funnel to one end. These horns will make your voice louder and help project sound farther, like a megaphone.

Sound Direction: You'll discover how the tube and funnel work together to push sound forward in the direction you point the horn. You'll practice directing sound to different parts of the room.

Volume Control: You'll learn that the horn amplifies whatever volume you put into it. You can make quiet sounds, normal sounds, or projected sounds, and the horn will make each one louder.

Steps: Connect two tubes together with tape, attach the funnel securely to one end, decorate your horn with stickers and markers, practice volume control and sound direction, then perform marching band chants together as a class.
